This Mom Tried HelloFresh and Here’s What Happened!

HelloFresh is a meal kit delivery service. You can select from up to three different plans (Veggie, Classic, and Family.) As you can see above, every recipe comes prepackaged and labeled in a little brown bag. Everything is pre-portioned to make cooking a breeze. All you need to do is follow the instructions included. 

For this review I’m going to be focusing on the “Sriracha Cha-Cha Chicken” which I have to say turned out delicious. Hey, I’ll be the first to admit I’m not the best cook. I felt so proud of myself once I got this meal on the plate.

So what did I think?

It’s not often that I fall in love with a service the way I did HelloFresh. The convenience of coming home and having my dinner ready to go in a bag can’t be beaten. Also, every time I cook a new HelloFresh meal I learn to do, or use ingredients I didn’t know before. With this recipe I learned a new way to season broccolli which turns out I absolutely love!

Is the cost worth it?

After the promotional period, the cost of this particular (4 people, family) meal kit would be $7.49 per person. On one hand, that means that this meal kit would cost nearly $30 for a family of four. On the other hand, if you bought all these ingredients yourself it would add up. For example, I filled up a cart at Walmart Grocery. Surprisingly, the total dollar amount would come up to roughly $22 if you bought the ingredients used. Much higher than even I expected.

Personally, the $8 difference is worth it, especially if it means I don’t need to do any additional work or head into the grocery store. While it may be a bit more expensive time is money, and I’d rather use that time with my family.
